Newborn Photography
What is Newborn Photography?
Newborn photography is a specialized field that involves capturing photographs of a baby within the first few weeks of their life. This is because newborns change so quickly and grow up so fast, making this period a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to capture beautiful images of the baby at their most delicate and innocent stage. Newborn photography is often done in a studio setting, where the photographer can control the lighting, temperature, and other factors that are important for capturing the best possible images. With Free West Photography we opt for more natural, basket and beanbag posing to avoid the baby becoming uncomfortable. We do not offer poses such as the froggy that are against the suggestions of pediatricians.
Your baby's safety is at the utmost importance.
Why is Newborn Photography Important?
Newborn photography is important for several reasons.
Firstly, it captures a moment in time that is fleeting and will never come again. Babies grow and change so quickly, and capturing their first few weeks in photographs can create a lasting memory for the family to cherish. The tiny toes, the cute button nose, baby hairs, and more are things that you can see again and again once your baby has outgrown the tiny features.
Secondly, newborn photography is a beautiful and artistic way to celebrate the new life that has entered the world. The images can showcase the baby's unique features and personality, and provide a way to share their arrival with family and friends. Capturing your newborn with their siblings is also a very special way to announce your baby and for the siblings to revisit this moment in time.
Finally, newborn photography is an opportunity for parents to bond with their baby and create a special moment that they will never forget. The experience of a newborn photography session can be relaxing, joyful, and an opportunity to connect with the baby in a meaningful way. Sometimes grandparents may join, creating a special experience for your extended family as well.
What to Expect During a Newborn Photography Session:
A typical newborn photography session lasts for 1.5-2 hours, depending the baby's needs. During this time, the baby will be posed in various positions, and the photographer will capture a series of beautiful, artistic images. With Free West Photography, we want it to be a joyful experience so we give plenty of time to feed baby and snuggle with your baby in between.
Before the session, please ask any questions you may have in regards to outfits, family members attendance, poses/safety, and instructions on how to prepare the baby for the shoot.
TIPS:
1) Feed the baby right before they come, or at the beginning of the shoot (after base wrap is placed)
2) Dressing your baby in loose-fitting clothes, and keeping them warm and cozy is the best way to prepare them for the shoot. We will make sure a heater or the thermostat is up, this may be hot for you but best for the newborn to stay sleepy.
3) Bring your baby between 5-7 days of life for the very best result. Newborn photography can be done up to 3 months of life, but after the first few weeks, we cannot guarantee sleeping or closed eyes.
4) We suggest 1 baby knot gown and hat or outfit that you love for your lifestyle portion. We provide all the props and wraps.
During the session, the photographer(s) will usually work with the baby's natural movements and sleeping patterns to create beautiful images. They may use props such as baskets, blankets, and hats to create a variety of poses and compositions.
The photographer will also work to create a relaxing and calming atmosphere for the baby and the parents. They may use white noise or soothing music to help the baby sleep, and take breaks as needed to ensure that the baby is comfortable and happy.
After the session, the photographer(s) will edit and retouch the images and provide digital files.
